Why It Works
Kindness is more than a nice idea. Research consistently shows that when people feel seen, valued, connected, and encouraged, they are more likely to thrive. Waves of Kindness™ brings those research-based principles to life through a meaningful, hands-on experience that strengthens relationships, builds belonging, and creates communities where kindness is visible.
More Than Pennants. More Than a Project.
At first glance, Waves of Kindness™ may look like a creative art activity. In reality, it is a carefully designed experience that combines storytelling, reflection, conversation, creativity, and community participation.
Participants don’t simply decorate pennants—they express gratitude, practice empathy, encourage one another, celebrate belonging, and discover that even small acts of kindness can create lasting ripples.
The result is a visible reminder that every person matters and every act of kindness has the power to strengthen a classroom, a school, a family, and a community.
Research Informs Us.
Experience Transforms Us.
The principles behind Waves of Kindness™ are informed by decades of research in Social-Emotional Learning, positive youth development, school climate, and developmental relationships.
CASEL
The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) identifies five essential competencies that help children and adults thrive:
- Self-Awareness
- Self-Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Skills
- Responsible Decision-Making
Waves of Kindness™ provides meaningful opportunities to practice each of these competencies through reflection, conversation, and shared experiences.
Search Institute
The Search Institute’s research emphasizes that caring relationships, encouragement, support, and belonging are essential for healthy development.
Every Waves of Kindness™ experience helps strengthen these developmental relationships by creating opportunities for participants to express care, encourage one another, and recognize that every person matters.
One Person Can Make a Difference
Every message of kindness creates a ripple.
Every ripple touches another person.
As individual pennants come together, they become a visible reminder that we are connected and that one act of kindness often inspires another.
This is how cultures change—one relationship at a time.
Every Person Wants to Belong
Research consistently shows that a sense of belonging supports learning, confidence, resilience, and healthy relationships.
When children and adults know they are accepted, valued, and encouraged, they are more willing to participate, contribute, and care for others.
Every completed Waves of Kindness™ display quietly communicates one powerful message:
You Belong Here.
